Will I Gain It Back?
You’ve asked questions and received answers from your doctor about taking prescription weight loss medications. Still, you have one more concern. After all that you’ve gone through, is there a possibility of gaining the weight back?
Quite Possibly
The Weight-control Information Network says that the majority of patients who stop taking weight loss drugs do regain the weight they lost.
Habit Forming
You may be disappointed to learn this. One thing you might be thinking is, “If I take more, then will I reduce the chances of gaining it back?” or “Can I take it longer than recommended. The answers are no and no! Take for example the drug Bontril, or phendimetrazine. This drug is habit forming. In other words, it’s addictive in nature. Drugs.com says about Bonril:
“You can become physically and psychologically dependent on this medication, and withdrawal effects may occur if you stop taking it suddenly after several weeks of continuous use. Talk to your doctor about stopping this medication gradually.”
You don’t want to just stop taking the medication abruptly, but you also don’t want to take it past your doctor’s recommended time frame. You also don’t want to take more than the recommended dosage of the medication.
Exercise, Exercise, Exercise!
There are things that you can do to prevent regaining too much of the weight you have lost. All prescription weight loss drugs should be taken with a combination of diet and exercise. It seems no matter what pill you decide to take or what plan you decide to follow to lose weight, exercise is a common ingredient. You will feel better and encourage within yourself a better state of well being when you exercise. Start slow, and consider working with a trainer if you can afford it. If you can’t afford it, check out some of the tips that you can find online on exercises you can do around the house. You don’t need a gym to exercise. Find your will, and then you will find your way to get your body moving!
